U.S. nuisance case dismissed (15 September 2005)

In a September 15, 2005 decision, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed the complaints in the State of Connecticut, at al., v. American Electric Power Co., et al.

The case was brought by eight U.S. states, New York City, and NGOs in July 2004 against the five biggest U.S. power companies. The plaintiffs argue that the huge emissions from the defendants' power plants are a public nuisance and that the court should order them to be reduced.
